In the seventeenth-century Golden Age of Rembrandt and Spinoza….Susanna Worthington, daughter of a royal courtier, first saw her future in a terrifying dream that foretold murder by a man tattooed with serpents. The second time, she was hiding in a dark cabin on a Dutch galleon, desperate to escape a forced betrothal in the chaotic aftermath of the English Civil War. A sudden flash of candlelight revealed the serpent's mark on the arm of her would-be rescuer David Winn, a mysterious sea captain who longs to become a physician.

So begins a journey that leads Susanna and Winn to Amsterdam’s Jewish Quarter during the time when Rembrandt painted his most haunting portraits, merchants grew rich on trading exotic luxuries, and modern science was born. When Susanna agrees to model for a Rembrandt portrait, she and Winn will each discover a surprising destiny, and come to know that dreams can be deceiving….

Editorial :

I would give a higher rating, but just felt the book was too superficial in too many places - I wanted Mr. This book isn't going to do the heavy lifting for you, only you can do that. This is a definite five star piece of work that approaches our failures in Iraq from a different perspective, and hence should be read with, Squandered Victory: The American Occupation and the Bungled Effort to Bring Democracy to Iraq. There you will find a free electronic copy of the (unacknowledged) Jefferson-Barlow translation for your comparison.

[]. I can tell you from watching the children of friends of mine, that choosing carefully in the twenties IS vital to happiness and choosing unwisely can lead to huge misfortune in your forties.

This book should be on everyone's list, from high school through college and it's about time someone wrote it.. We live in a demonically-dominated, decade
